The Lesson of the Fruit Fly

I learned a big lesson recently about fruit flies. They can get in very small cracks. The screen on my patio door I had assumed would keep out all pests. Unfortunately, this was not the case. By the way I never keep fruit out on the counter. Next thing I knew I had fruit flies! Not a huge infestation but enough to be annoying and doing some damage to my hydroponic systems.

As I battled this, the Lord reminded me that even the tiniest cracks in our life can have consequences. Once we allow in a just this one time sin,( see the above picture, sin sometimes looks innocent) the enemy takes a foothold. We get complacent. Time with God in reading the word and in prayer becomes a lessor priority in our life. As time goes on, we get weaker in faith and we find ourselves tired, overwhelmed, depressed and chaotic. The picture below is a good illustration that fruit flies are not cute they are the enemy.

As far as my fruit fly problem, I took all the steps necessary to eliminate the problem. Boiling water down sinks, covering them up (analogy: cover yourself in prayer and the word). I did take down all my hydroponics, dried everything out while I was treating my drains.

The remedy? Pick up the Word, read it, make it a priority. I find if I tell myself no Bible, no breakfast, it helps. Pray without ceasing. This just means keep Him in our thoughts, asking Him for guidance for every step every moment of our day. This takes diligence and self control. Not easy! I know!! But keep at it and you will get back on track.

When I do restart my hydroponic garden, I will be diligent, to keep everything cleaner and check regularly for problems. As far as the screen door, I bought a new one with a finer mesh. The smaller the cracks the less likely they get in.

So, remember the lesson of the fruit fly!!!
